The University’s Terms and Conditions, Freedom of Information and copyright notices are the overarching guidelines for use of all University of Exeter web pages.

Privacy policy for collection and use of personal details by the University of Exeter

All information you choose to give us will be held securely on the University’s alumni and supporters database. It is treated confidentially and with respect for the benefit of the University and its members in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

How do we use your data?

Data is primarily used for communicating alumni activities, fundraising programmes, and for the promotion of benefits and services. These may include an element of direct marketing. The data is also available to other departments across the University of Exeter.

The University may enhance or update data held on individuals and organisations by sourcing and retaining information which is available from trustworthy public sources. This may include identifying telephone numbers or new address details. Fundraising in support of the University is an important element of our charitable work, so we may undertake research to consider individuals’ potential to make donations.

The University screens data against those registered on the Telephone Preference Service ahead of undertaking any mass calling programme.

We collect and store the following information: the name of the domain from which you access the Internet, the date and time you access our site, and the Internet address of the website from which you linked to our site. We use the information we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful to visitors.

How will we share your data?

Data may be disclosed to The Students’ Guild, FXU, or the University of Exeter US Foundation for the purposes of alumni activities, fundraising programmes or the promotion of benefits and services. Data many also be disclosed to other external organisations acting as agents for the University, for example mailing houses for the mailing of alumni publications, or approved volunteers acting on behalf of the University. This may also include internationally based individuals who have been retained by the University or approved as volunteers in your country/region for use in relation to local activities, and who will have signed data agreements meeting University standards on data protection.

The University does NOT sell data to third parties.

Your Preferences

The University of Exeter stores photographic images taken at our events, and we use these in our marketing materials.

The University of Exeter retains data on and publicises the names of people who have given gifts of time or money to the University in our annual Thank You Report. We may also publicise the names in our marketing materials.
